Rotary Thalassemia Centre , Gurgaon
A Joint initiative of Rotary Club Gurgaon and Rotary Blood Bank , Gurgaon
Project was conceived during the Presidential tenure of Rtn Sanjay Jain. With the suggestions, cooperation and blessings of all members and under guidance of PDG Dr Sushil Khurana, we started working on the project.
Project was flagged off with a mega camp for Thalassemic Patients in November 2019 and again a camp in December 2019. Both the camps were well attended by patients and all concerned specialists doctors for Thalassemia care. All investigations were done and registration were done. A special ward for blood transfusion of these patients was erected in Rotary blood bank. Initially 22 children got registered. We started Transfusion services in November 2019 on a regular basis under the supervision of one of the Pediatrician everyday.
First wave of COVID – 19 and strict lockdown in March- April 2020 disrupted the blood transfusion services for these Thallesemia patients across the NCR. Somehow we keep on managing the transfusion services on a regular basis to each and every thalassemia patients who came to our Centre and by the end of July 2020 we were having more than 70 patients coming regularly for transfusion. In absence of regular voluntary blood donation , it was a challenge to sustain the services but with the help of some NGO , our friends and families of patients and most importantly willingness of Blood bank management we were able to cater these children. Right now we have 94 children registered with us for regular transfusion and medical care. Till now we have transfused more than 2000 units of quality blood.
I on behalf of all these patients and their families grateful to Rotary Club Gurgaon , Rotary Blood bank Gurgaon, PP Rtn Sanjay Jain and Dr Sushil Khurana for this initiative as before this there was no regular blood transfusion services were available for these Thallesemic children along with all kind of consultation services and regular monitoring.
